Worldview Assignment
The term worldview has different meanings to different people. Throughout this week’s readings, I have come to my own conclusion that one’s worldview is their perception of the world based on a set of presuppositions that are acquired throughout a lifetime. It is something that can change many times depending on the situations encountered in life.
Christians believe that everything exists as a result of God, the Creator. This is reiterated in Genesis 1:1 and Psalm 139:13-16. Throughout life, many Christians are taught that “God is triune and all three Persons of the Godhead were involved in the creation of the universe and mankind” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p.56). Man is created in the image of God and according to the theistic view, “… is a special creation of God … and is responsible to take care of God’s creation” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p. 58). In Genesis 2:15 and Psalm 8:5, man’s identity is further defined. Man was created with moral and spiritual capacities, among other things, from God so that we may understand our identity as His creation. “Theists believe that the purpose of mankind is to know God” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p. 60). The Bible, according to Christians, is just one tool through which God speaks to man. In John 17:3 and Leviticus 19:37 we see just a few examples of God’s purpose for mankind. God also has standards for man regarding morality and/or ethics. He gave us the ability to choose, even knowing that we could choose to disregard His guidelines or Commandments. In Exodus 20:6 we are told how to please God. Though we may please God, in Ephesians 2:8-10, we see what we must ultimately do to atone for man’s fall from God. “How a Christian lives their life reveals their spiritual condition” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p.65). Christians believe that after death, you have two choices: Heaven or Hell. Going to Heaven, or to Hell, is not just based on good deeds, or bad deeds, but on your salvation in Jesus Christ....
