PIA History and performance:
Pakistan international airline (PIA) was best known in domestically and internationally due to its performance, pricing and captured the larger share in the domestic market in airline industry. Pakistan international airline created from the private airline the Orient airline, which had the limited capital available for the expansion. In 1955 the government of Pakistan has invited the Orient airways to merger with state-owned airline and resulted in the new airline Pakistan international airline. Headquarter of PIA was established on the Jinnah international airport Karachi. It has 24 domestic destinations and 38 international destinations in 27 countries across Asia Europe and North America.
In 1955 the PIA scheduled its first international service for the capital city of London, through Cairo and Rome. The main focus of PIA’s remained, to serve the Pakistani community at large. The PIA as national airline has the priorities for the transportation of expatriates. Also the PIA has earned huge foreign exchange through international services, which it has invested in the purchase of aircraft and spare parts.
The PIA focused more on Development, expansion, and growth and the early management was also committed. In March 1960, PIA has launched successful service of its first Boeing 707 jet service on the London-Karachi-Dacca, route and as a resulted the PIA became the first Asian Airline to operate a jet aircraft, setting trends for the future. In 1961 the PIA had placed new orders for more new aircraft which included Fokker F-27s, Boeing 720Bs and Sikorsky helicopters.
