EXCESSIVE USAGE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING WEBSITES AFFECTS SOCIAL

Facebooking, tweeting and texting are not only the prevalent but also the preferred forms of

communication for most of the people today whether they are kids going to school, working

adults, or retired seniors. Does this affect our interaction skills? Social media interaction now

dominates both online and offline conversations. In a society where interacting and over-sharing

online is the norm, we’re probably more likely to speak to friends and family through electronic

devices than face-to-face. Social Media Websites are initiating adverse changes in our

“interaction skills” First people are losing the art of conversation. Without letters and face-to-

face talks we are gradually forgetting how to make a proper conversation. Children use the social

networking lingo to communicate with their peers which affects their writing skills. These social

sites also play as an escape route for the socially awkward part of the society due to which they

are stagnant socially. There’s a greater desire to share with other people you barely know, than

actually hanging out with friends and making memories.

I think that Face-to-face communication will ultimately diminish because of these

new social networking technologies.   People used to actually talk to their friends. Those hours

spent hanging out with pals in the neighborhood after school vanished long ago. But now, even

chatting on cell phones or via e-mail is passé. For most people the give and take of friendship

seems to be conducted increasingly through texts, instant messages or through public forum of
