China and Egypt Comparison essay
Ancient China and Egypt were some of history’s first civilizations and thrived for long periods of time. China’s ancient society began on the Huang He River and spread from there. Egypt’s society began on the Nile and easily became a successful kingdom because of the Niles effect on the soil. They compare and contrast in many ways, Such as their government, their beliefs and faiths and their daily life.
China’s government was nothing like Egypt’s. In China, in the earlier dynasties, it was all centralized, and functioned a lot like feudalism in the renaissance in Europe, or Mesopotamian city states. However as time moved on, and china began to expand, in the Zhou Dynasty the government became decentralized. However in Egypt, It remained an absolute monarchy throughout its history. Also, Chinese emperors were viewed as kingly, while the Egyptian kings, or pharaohs were seen and praised as gods.
Religions in Ancient China and in Ancient Egypt are different and yet similar. Three different teachings, including Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism greatly inspired the Chinese. Confucius thought people about being loyal, selfish, and courteous. Daoism is a philosophy that defines proper conduct for people and governments. Buddhism is to worship a man who try’s not to overcome suffering. Egyptian religion was based polytheism, or worship of many gods. The Egyptians had as many as 2000 gods and goddesses. Often gods and goddesses were represented as part human and part animal much like the civilization of the Aztecs whose gods were viewed as having the appearance of an animal or having animal parts on their body. Temples were built as places for the gods to stay in. Each city had a temple built for the god of that city such as the great pyramid of Giza that was built for the sun god Ra.
