Social issues have plagued the United States of America, and are becoming more of a serious problem within the country as well as around the world. One major issue that has been neglected from the public eye is that of sexually transmitted diseases. Many of these issues, STDs included, are being looked over and are not seen as problems for society. This in itself is a problem because by ignoring these issues, they will never be solved. If they never get solved they will continue to grow and become graver, until the issue can no longer be ignored. There are many different strategies that can be used successfully in the decline of social issues, including the ever pertinent issue of STDs.
There are many different kinds of sexually transmitted diseases. The most prevalent and the ones that have become the biggest threat include syphilis, gonorrhea, genital herpes, genital warts, viral hepatitis, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, more commonly known as AIDS. The most common way STDs are spread is by what their name implies, an infection through sexual contact, however this is not the only way. Some STDs can also be contracted indirectly through contaminated objects or blood. Along with this, nearly all STDs can be passed along from an infected mother to her fetus (Karow). This issue is becoming a rapidly growing problem.
Sexually transmitted diseases are an epidemic sweeping the country and the world.   The life-threatening potential that comes with some sexually transmitted diseases, like the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is a major reason as to why this issue should be treated as a severe problem. STDs are also very easily spread when appropriate precautions are not taken, making it a rapidly increasing problem. What makes them even more dangerous is that many sexually transmitted diseases are asymptomatic, meaning that an individual could have the disease and could potentially be spreading it without showing any symptoms of the disease.
