Republican Assembly of North Carolina

This synopsis is on the Republican Assembly held at Johnson C. Smith University in Biddle auditorium. I went to the Republican Assembly not only for extra credit, but to take a look at the other side of government seeing that I find myself to leaning more to the democratic side. This is not only based on the sides my parent are on, but based on my own decision making over the years and what the democrats stand for. The meeting started with the African American State Director Earl Phillips. He stated that the goal of their program was to reach out to the African-American community about the issues, and find out what they could do to help it thrive. We then sung the Black National Anthem. I found this particularly interesting because the room was filled with what I assumed to be Republicans and it seems rather odd to start off an meeting that way. To me , this seemed like they wanted us to feel comfortable and see the more accepting side of the Republican   Party. After the anthem they introduced us to the mediator of the conference , Vince Copley. He then asks the conference to think of one word to describe the status of North Carolina. Words are thrown out and he gets to his point, that the status is grim. As an example, he talks about a comment Travis Smiley said on Fox news. Smiley says that the black community ,as a whole, has lost ground in every leading economic place in the United States after Osama's first presidency. Apparently 13% of the country believes that America is going in the right direction   opposed to the 40% that believed we were going in the right direction during Obama's first election. His reasons for these comments were, beyond Democrats and Republicans, something must be done to alleviate the problem the country is in.
