There are two important role of HR in the 21st century. There are recruiting team and the training and development team. Priority of HR challenges keep changing from time to time. The biggest challenge for HR (Murugesan, 2010) in the 21st century is to identify its biggest challenge.
Recruitment (Dowling & Schuler, 1990) is to search for and obtain potential job candidates in sufficient numbers and quality so that the organization can select the most appropriate people to fill its job needs. (Hackett, 1991) Predicting which candidates will make the most appropriate contribution for now and in the future. Recruitment consists of sourcing, hiring, staffing and talent acquisition. Factors influencing recruitment are (Kochan and Barocci, 1985) the organization’s stage in the life cycle; soft or hard approach to HRM; organization’s financial position; organization size; industrial sector and cultural variation. The reason we need recruitment is because different jobs need different skills. Without the right skills to do a specific job, the employees will not be able to perform efficiently and may lead to burn out and therefore it is important to place the right employee with the right job. Then the employees will be able to perform efficiently for the organization and turnover can be reduced.
Recruitment team needs to have thorough knowledge about the organization’s business and also the current competitors in the same industry. Environmental pressures such as (May, n.d.) increasing globalization, rapid technological change, and tougher competition heavily affect recruitment as there is urgency for different talents at a fast changing environmental. For example, (Pandita, 2011) actuarial science graduates are highly seek as there are very little people doing this course as it’s a very difficult course to do.
