* Introduction :
Queen is a British rock band who was created in the 70s. The first name of the group was “Smile”. Brian May and Roger Taylor was the only two who played in the first group. They changed the name in “Queen” only after the meeting between the others members. The new name was for Freddie Mercury because “Queen” means “gay” in slang and Mercury was bisexual.
They formed the band after the meeting between Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor. The style of music is mostly pop rock and blues rock.
* The members :
* Freddy Mercury was a singer, pianist and the leader of the quartet. His true name was Farrokh Bulsara. He was certainly the most know member of the group.
Mercury was famous for his special voice and the fact that he wrote majority of songs : Purple Rain, We are the Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody,… he was also the first personality who said that he was bisexual.
* Brian May was the second singer. He was also a guitarist and a fantastic pianist. He created his own guitar “Red Special”. He created it when he was 16 years old.
* John Deacon was the only one who never sang in the group. However he composed a lot of album and was the principal bassist.
* Roger Taylor played at the drums and sang in a lot of single of the band.
* Debut and success :
Their first success was for their 3rd album : “Sheer Heart Attack”. Thanks to this song, they were gold record in the U.S.A. After that they did a royal tour all over the world.
Queen offer a free concert in Hide Park London in 1976. There were 15 000.
Queen played with a lot of other people like The Who, U2, Madonna and Elton John.
Then they wrote 19 albums, send 300 million albums all over the world and become the greatest record seller.
* The end of the group :
