What effects does PTSD have on people? Is there a possible link in future addictions, such as alcohol or substance abuse for these sufferers? If so, how is it treated? What can be done to help people, who are not only dealing with the effects of a trauma-induced disorder, but who also fall prey to the symptoms that come along with drug and alcohol use?   Should both be treated the same or should only one be treated while the other is set aside to be dealt with at a later time? How is this disorder measured and what awareness is being made to help it’s victims for the future?
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that in the past was associated only with returning war veterans.   It’s been since found that it can affect many types of people in our society; men, women, children and adolescents alike, who develop it after dealing with or being involved in a traumatic ordeal.   Trauma comes in many forms, such as being involved in the protecting of our country.   Service members who have to deal with the possibilities of having to kill or wound others, or knowing that their own life is at risk and they are on alert at all times, can be a heavy stress to deal with day in and day out.   Violence and the many forms of abuse, such as child or domestic abuse, is considered traumatic.   Rape victims or any victim...
