Art has long held a secure place in the preprimary programme and also in the play of young children. Naturally-occurring activities of the young child include scribbling, drawing, block- building, and clay modeling. The young child should not have these activities forced upon him or her nor should these activities first be demonstrated by the instructor. By discovering for himself, the young child seems to derive pleasure from carrying out activities on his or her own. The tasks of the parents and teachers are to find art activities that contribute to motor, affective, perceptual, cognitive, and aesthetic development.

Art Education is the area of learning that is based upon the visual tangible arts like drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics and according to Teaching Art In The Primary Schools by Geoff Rowell,(1991) the individual elements of the language of art are line, colours, tone, texture, form, pattern and shape. Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses and emotions. Art is a personal and satisfying activity at any age for although the arts are responsible for a greater awareness of the external world, art for the child is primarily a means of self-expression of his or her thoughts and ideas at his level of development.
