"Patriotism means supporting your government during times of war."
The definition of Patriotism is the love of and devotion to one's own country but Some people mistake that as meaning to blindly follow whatever the popular political opinion might be that week whether it's raising taxes, going to war, or any other issue of the month. I started this essay with my view on patriotism. While writing this essay, my mind was filled with understanding of what Patriotism means. This thought came from interviewing a man named Angelo that has been in the military for quite a few years now. I went to him to get a first hand opinion and applying his experience. But have you ever really thought of how the government wants us to support them even though they are doing things that are wrong. Well for all we know they could be killing thousands of people at this very moment.
First of all I believe that this country is trying to do everything they can so that we can be safe but up to a certain extent they need to really think about their actions before they proceed. Even though I know for a fact there either breaking the law or causing conflict with countries, I still love this country. But the thing that I don't get is why do you have to follow exactly what the government says to do? You still can be a patriot even though you don't follow the war. So for myself I feel that I am a patriot because I support the government and all the actions they take to make are life better but the thing is I disagree and agree with the statement above.
Secondly, in my opinion I think that the only way to settle anything between countries is the go to war. War helps settle the difference between each county. The government wants us to be there for them during the war because they want our support, but what gives them the right for calling us non patriotic just because we don't accept everything that they do? When I really think about this, I say to myself that there are parts of the government...
