Patient Expectations for Health Care Reform
Imagine this country with free health care, how optimistic can one be? For generations, Europe has managed to provide free health care for their citizens. Europe has built a state-run health care system so comprehensive even illegal immigrants benefit from it. It could well possibly be what President Barack Obama had in mind for the United States. Millions of Americans agreed it was necessary to vote for the Affordable care Act reform. However, it remains to be seen if the choice was indeed what this country needed.  
President Barack Obama fought to enforce the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) to help those in need. His primary target was the low-income families; he wanted those families to have the opportunity to get the medical attention they require.   Who is benefitting from the ACA, so far the younger generation are the ones benefiting from the reform. Young adults do not require much medical attention, therefore, it puts them in a low risk bracket making them benefit more. On the other hand, older Americans that require more medical attention are being affected by the cuts that were made to Medicare to fund Obamacare. By Medicare lowering doctor payouts some doctors may decide not to accept Medicare patients. It is hard enough for the older generation to have to deal with high monthly Medicare payments, now they also have to worry about finding a good treating doctor that takes their insurance. “Medicare cuts would hit older Americans especially hard at a point in their lives when health care is needed the most.” (Patton, 2012, para. 8).   Medicare cuts are forcing the older generation to seek out secondary insurance plans or cut out Medicare altogether out of the picture. In doing so, they now have to seek for expensive healthcare plans that they can’t afford. (Patton, 2012) So, what can the younger generation now expect when they are middle-aged? ; It could possibly be that Medicare will be faced out by that time....
