One of the main edifices of the Nehruvian era, the 60yearold
Planning Commission, has been disbanded to be replaced
by the National Institution for Transforming India, NITI Aayog. The NITI Aayog, which has replaced the Planning
Commission, will be responsible for formulating what the Government described as “a Bharatiya approach to
development”. The new organisation—NITI Aayog—is being seen as a think tank that will foster “cooperative federalism”
rather than take a topdown
approach.
