Understand principles of professional development.
In health and social care, legislation and best practice are always changing, Therefore In my role it is vital to continually improve my knowledge and practice. It is important to keep up to date with changes in legislation, current codes of practice, company policies and procedures and any changes in the standards set by governing bodies such as Care Quality Commission. This will enable me to carry out my role effectively and in line with current best practices. I will also be able to manage staff effectively, ensuring they are kept up to date with any changes that affect the services we provide and current ways of working. Enabling them to deliver the best service possible to the service users they support.
Care quality commission have recently changed the way they regulate services, and the things they look at to ensure services are meeting the national standards.
Part of this is to ensure services are
* well led
* Responsive to people’s needs.
General social care council set out Codes of practice for social care workers and social care worker employers, one of the standards is shown below:
* Be accountable for the quality of their work and take responsibility for maintaining and improving their knowledge and skills.
I have a responsibility for my own personal development. I’m always looking for ways to improve my knowledge and development, I do this by ensuring all my mandatory training is up to date and by looking for new training opportunities to expand my knowledge in other relevant areas. I keep myself updated with changes in health and social care and amend my ways of working to reflect the changes, I do this by way of development reviews with my manager, emails (including CQC updates, Skills for care, SCIE), company policy and procedure updates. By doing this I am ensuring that I am working in a way to meet the standards outlined above....
