REFLECT ON YOUR PRACTICE AND EXPLAIN
WHAT YOUR ROLE IS IN RESPONDING TO
As a social care worker I work with many different service users. I'm based in halewood area of knowsley. I currently work with three service users who all have a learning disability and complex needs and are all very different. My duties include all aspects of personal care bathing, dressing, medication. I support them in the community and try to give them a full and happy life.
I deal with all aspects of daily life paying of bills, budgets, recording of all financial purchases. I am responsible for helping the service users maintain their properties assisting them to get the best price for works undertaken in their home. As a social care worker I assist the service users in feeling part of the community, by going out socially for meals or to the cinema etc.
The service users I support are very different they all have individual needs. They all have very complex health issues. Diabetes, dementia Two of them have poor communication skills and are non verbal. The other service user is able to communicate verbally but chooses not to speak.
The service users I support need help to communicate with family members, other practitioners and generally people they come across in the community.
If the service users I support are not happy with a service they have received, either from an outside agency or from the staff team supporting them personally, I would assist them to make a complaint. I would listen to them, I would tell them I am taking their complaint seriously, always being polite. If it was appropriate I would apologise but I wouldn't try to resolve the situation. I would inform them of the complaints procedure explaining what they could likely expect to happen. I would then thank them reassuring them. I would then inform my manager that a complaint is being made.
