Drugs are everywhere. We can’t control it no matter how hard we try. Many of those drugs are very harmful to our society, but others have very little or virtually no harm at all. Cannabis is one of those drugs, and I think that if it was legalized it would help out our society a lot more than you would think.
“One study in mice and rats suggested that cannabinoids may have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors” (cannabis and cannabinoids). Did you know that delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, aka THC, the main component in cannabis can be used to prevent growth and in some cases treat some types of cancer (Cannabis and Cannabinoids)? It also can be used to treat many things, such as restlessness, anxiety, stress, and many more. You may be asking yourself “why are we not using this resource”, well we are in some states such as Colorado, California, and even in Illinois. But in order to get the drug legally you have to get lots of permits, and pay a lot of money.
I know what many of you are thinking, “it may have positive effects but what about the negative ones”. Many of the so called “negative effects” of marijuana are nothing more that myths. “Government experts now admit that pot doesn’t kill brain cells” (Myths about Marijuana). The only study that was ever done was a doctor pumped the equivalent of 50 joints into a monkeys lungs without oxygen, which lead to loss of brain cells. We all know that lack of oxygen leads to loss of brain cells, so later on that study was deemed irrelevant because of improper testing. Another myth is that marijuana leads to harder drugs. Dr. Patricia Morgan took a survey and it showed that the only reason many cannabis smokers started doing other drugs was because of the lack of marijuana (Myths about Marijuana). So really marijuana is keeping people off of harder drugs.
Marijuana is everywhere in our society, and it always will be whether you like it or not. But it’s not what people all...
