Influential Presidents

Throughout the history of the United States of America we have had some great presidents whose legacy has carried on through time. We have had a total of 44 presidents in office thus far; none can be more memorable in my opinion than George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Each of them is portrayed in history books as great American Presidents and their legacy carries on to our society today. They are known for their great accomplishments, yet they are very different people from very distinct backgrounds in life. They faced different issues while in office; however both presidents showcased the very best qualities for their jobs and were able to unite the nation during their most difficult times.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 to a wealthy Colonial family who owned tobacco plantations as well as slaves in Virginia. His father and older brother died when he was young, so he became very independent and a hard worker from a very early age. In 1787 Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention that drafted the United States Constitution. Two years later, George Washington became the first President of the United States of America on April 30, 1789, in New York City. Throughout his life he had earned the reputation as a dominant military and political leader. He led the American victory over England in the American Revolutionary War as the commander in chief of The Continental Army. Washington is known as the father of his country. He had a vision of a great and powerful nation that would be built on republican lines using federal power. He sought to use the national government to preserve liberty, improve infrastructure, open the western lands, promote commerce, found a permanent capital, reduce regional tensions and promote a spirit of American nationalism.
