Among our nations many predicaments, there are some issues that strike us not only on the national level but also our communities. One of these issues is the controversial topic of immigration, often times mostly due to bipartisan gridlock one of our nation’s biggest problems is getting left untreated. However reading numerous and vastly differing opinions along with the experience of living in a border town all my life I have came to he conclusion that our government is too busy trying to overthink their situation rather than find a simple solutions to the issue. One of their main solutions is to just grant all illegals amnesty, which will just fuel the fire for immigrants to come to the U.S. In my opinion I think that the government should return to their policy to further enforce the immigration laws, but in addition to this make the legal process of citizenship easier to achieve. The problem is the government and especially the Obama administration is making it extremely difficult to secure these solutions.
One of the federal government’s core responsibilities is to control our borders and determine who enters the United States. However, the government has consistently failed at this, leading to today’s untenable situation with over 11 million people unlawfully present in the U.S. Not only does the border remain unsecured, but also the government has failed to repair its broken visa system to ensure that those who come to the U.S. on a temporary visa do not stay here permanently. Those who favor granting amnesty have tried to convince Americans to support it by claiming that their actions and comprehensive immigration reform legislation will “secure” the border, strengthen interior enforcement, and tighten visa policy. Yet the Administration’s recent actions to grant amnesty without regarding our own checks and balances prove that it cannot be trusted to enforce even existing immigration laws.
