(According to Norton.D.E.,&Norton,S.E.Through the eyes of a child: an introduction to children's literature.2007.Pearson Merrill Prentice Hall) Imagination has a lot of benefits .First, imagination helps school going children solve problems by helping them think through various outcomes to different situations. In addition, imagination helps school age children cope with difficulty conditions and new conditions through role playing.  Also, imagination allows kids to practice real life skills.  For instance, children are able to practice shipping, assigning roles to dolls and dialogue. Pretend play helps children practice new learning and also apply new learning and this helps them understand how such skills are used in real life.  Moreover, imagination helps in development of vocabulary in children. Telling stories, listening to stories and pretend play helps kids learn new words and maintain the words they have learned. This in turn enriches their vocabulary. Imagination improves creativity and thinking in children. This is because children grow up to be creative thinkers.  This makes it easy for them to solve problems, be innovative and creative.  However, children today are not encouraged to use their imagination and this has affected development of the brain in children. Therefore, the essay focuses on how children today are not encouraged to use their imagination (Norton &Norton 2007).
