I give the film Eye Contact 3-5 stars. The characters in the film are the jogger who is played by Allison Mickelson, David Bruce as the coroner and, Jason Goodrich as the officer. The film first takes place in the woods with a women jogging on the path and she ends up on this beach with a lighthouse so she stops and takes a breather. She looks up at the lighthouse and began to run to the very tip of the lighthouse. When she reaches the top she looks down and spotted a shadow like figure that looked a little suspicious. When continuing to run she saw that the figure was following her every move, and that’s when things started to get dangerous. The film maker wants you to feel the suspense in the movie by showing the watcher suspense by making the music slow with random bell sounds at the beginning of the film and another sign of suspense was the constant dramatics of the woman falling to the ground and looking back at the black figure.
The only clear suspense technique I saw was how the man traveled from the wood path to the lighthouse so quickly. I felt like that was a sign that something bad was going to happen to the women. I found many techniques specific to the film such as handheld shots, the wide shots and mid-shots that created all the suspenseful moments. Another factor in creating suspense was the background music and how it got louder when we could see the mysterious man.
It would have been more realistic and even more terrifying, if the black figure was actually a person and not a black figure. Another thing I would try to improve is her facial expressions, she needs to look more terrified in the film. The thing that I’ll remember the most about this film is how quickly he traveled from the ground to the top of the lighthouse so fast.
