The Ethics Committee provide a caring environment when a patient or family member is experiencing difficulty with a certain condition that requires to make an ethical decision. When a difficult decision needs to be made, the Ethics Committee is available to help by clarifying any ethical question, discussing any responsibilities and standards related to patient care, encouraging decision making among patients, families, and their healthcare team and making recommendations to the individuals involved. When the family of a patient is emotionally drained and their making requests that are not in the best interests of the patient, or their beliefs, an Ethics Committee can help bring the ethical situation into focus, and allow the family to see what ethical choices are available, and are best for the patient. Ethics committees bring together minds from different fields and point of view to better assist families in making a decision that will be best for their loved one emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Ethics committees can provide an opportunity to voice fears, concerns and questions (ANA 2013).
When talking to your loved ones about their wishes for end of life, you need to consider a positive attitude towards life, the activities you enjoy and concerns that you have about any fear. Attitude about the means to care for one’s self and control, how you feel about losing that person, religious beliefs, for better or for worse, and how they affect your behavior towards serious illness, health, dying, death and feelings toward doctors and other caregivers. When facing difficult decisions about end of life, fear and confusion regarding options are the greatest factors.   Some families are very religious and feel the life is in the control of their personal higher power, whereas others want every available resource utilized in order to prolong life as long as possible....
