Media violence on television, movies and video games is one of the greatest contributing factors that result to our youth becoming more aggressive. Years of research by Psychologists and Scientists has been done to distinguish whether children at a young age that have been exposed to media violence tend to be more aggressive than the children who have not been exposed, and all have come to the same conclusion. There will be more detailed discussion and research provided of how media violence effects the youth.
Children are like sponges, they absorb almost everything they see or hear, especially when it comes to the media, in some way or another it will affect them in a positive or negative way. Soledad Liliana Escobar-Chaves and Craig A. Anderson, professors and directors of Behavioural and Violence Sciences, Department of Psychology, at the Universities of Texas and Iowa State. Together they have written a Journal Article called Media and Risky Behaviors. Experimental studies and research have revealed that even a single exposure to media violence increases aggression in the immediate actions. Exposure of violence to children can be dangerous, it can influence who they will become in the future, children have an automatic inclination to imitate observed behaviours starting from a young age, this is their learning process. Escobar-Chaves and Anderson have done research on experiments and found that exposure to media violence can increase the risk factors for future hostile and violent behaviour, some of those factors are an increase in aggressive emotions and thinking, as well as eventually a tolerance for aggression. There is an enormous risk that children of this nature become offenders of violence showing no remorse, because they believe that what they are exposed to is the norm, they are influenced into thinking that the world is a lot more dangerous and terrifying than it really is.
