Effective Communication Case Study Analysis

Effective communication is essential when dealing with any problem or crisis that either directly or indirectly affects the public.   High profile people and corporations have suffered over the years from a failure to communicate effectively with their publics.   Mishaps caused by lack of communication can lead to loss of revenue and contracts for a company.   To avoid these types of issues and concerns it is best to hire a public relations (PR) expert who is skilled at developing the appropriate response to a situation.   This includes actions to take following an incident, who to contact and how soon to respond.   The Tylenol Murders case study is an excellent look at how public relations can influence opinions.   This paper will review the case study and evaluate the effectiveness of the communication between the Tylenol Company and the public.   The paper will identify the different publics involved both internal and external, the impact the communication had on the public and if the message could have been developed more effectively.   The paper will also identify the different PR communication tools and techniques used, the risks associated with those tools and identify other available tools.   Finally, this paper will determine if new technology available today would change the impacts of the case, and if globalization would impact the case if it happened today.

The Tylenol Company responded very quickly to the murders.   The company used the media to relay the methods being used to investigate the incident and prevent it from happening again.
