Personal Vision of Educational Excellence
I strive to create a trusting environment where my students feel engaged in their learning experience, through dynamic workshops and interactive team-builders. The activities and workshops that I plan draw out specific learning outcomes, where I promote logical and creative thinking. I believe in creating a collaborative atmosphere with students, so that they feel connected to program. It is my belief that students will gain a deeper appreciation for learning and education with this approach.
My aim is to employ influential mentors that value education and social change, students that will also lead by example. Each year, I recruit caring mentors that want to make a difference in the lives of high school students who struggle academically, but also show great potential. The mentors are positive role models that are passionate about leadership and mentoring. They believe in creating a difference in society by investing in our youth. This is very important because many of the parents and/or guardians that we serve do not have time to fully engage in their child’s education. Many families living in urban cities work multiple jobs to provide for their families, thus making education secondary. Therefore, mentor support becomes extremely beneficial for most of them.
Our mentors also partake in planning our program activities, which gives them a sense of ownership of the program. These workshops focus on academic development, life skills, and social change. By doing so, I make a commitment to the mentors by recognizing them as leaders and young professionals. They also gain valuable skills by planning and leading these workshops. I share valuable information, knowledge and resources with them, so they are learning to strengthen their own qualities. I support their career and educational objectives, while they do the same for the student mentees, creating a unified approach.
