Friends: One female friend, she has a car and they go for weekly trips out together.
Career History: she worked as a typist from the age of 18, became a housewife when she had her first child at 24. At the age of 30 she became an English teacher at a local primary school as she approached retirement she became a cleaner for the final few years of her career before retiring at the age of 60.
Interests and Hobbies: she has always looked after her family so hasn’t had many hobbies during her life, she has always cooked for her family and enjoys cooking now even though she is on her own, and since retiring she enjoys looking after her garden and spends much of her time there. Since retiring she has also started reading more as she feels this will keep her mind stimulated. She also loves to play the piano.
Other health issues: Arthritis, this is sometimes an issue for Doreen as she finds it hard grabbing things as her arthritis is at its worst in her hands. Also recently she is suffering with her legs and finding it difficult to get up and down the stairs.
Routines before dementia: Doreen would wake up whenever, wash her face, then do her hair and make-up then get dressed. Doreen would then prepare breakfast for herself, if she wasn’t going out with her friend or having a visit from her daughter she would cook and bake, tend to her garden or take a trip to the shops. Doreen normally has her dinner at 1 in the afternoon, for dinner she usually has a cold sandwich, salad or a sausage sandwich. About 7 Doreen would put her frozen meal in the oven and then go and watch her favourite programme Emmerdale, by this time her tea would be done so she usually sits down eats her tea while watching...
