• What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?
Discrimination is to treat, discriminate or make a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs to which that person or thing belongs rather than one individual merit ( Webster, 2015). Discrimination refers to the behaviors directed against another group. Prejudice means to have an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge thought or reason. Being prejudice usually means to think preconceived beliefs about a group of people. (Webster, 2015) Stereotyping is to believe that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same (Webster, 2015). Discrimination is different from stereotyping because when you stereotype an individual or group of people you make distorted views or comments about someone. Example of discrimination is to say pink is for girls only and tall people play football. Discrimination differs from prejudice because it means to dissociate you with a particular age, race, or gender. For example people may say a male is gay because of his high pitch voice.

Discrimination is often fuelled by people living and working in separate communities and therefore not having opportunity to interact with people from the other group.
