1.0 INTRODUCTION:
Fredrick Taylor was an American inventor, engineer and often been regarded as the father of scientific management theory, which was an amalgamation of engineering and scientific knowledge in the field of management. Taylor’s hundred years old Scientific Management Theory is still applicable till date in almost all of the modern firms and Taylor’s principles can be found in practice too. Scientific management theory rationalizes and standardizes production techniques, with the objective of improving efficiency and productivity. (Antic, 2006)
Moreover, Human Resource Management was developed as a response to Taylorism because of the mounting pressure from American organizations in 1970’s, with the onset of globalization, technological changes and deregulation. (Gitman, 2007) Such developments pressurized the organizations to develop a strategic management practice that promoted alignment and structure in different aspects of the organization to result in organizational effectiveness. This change in organizational behavior developed technically and it is prevalent in contemporary societies as well. (Warner, 1994)
This essay aims to critically assess the ways in which F.W. Taylor's Scientific Management theory has influenced contemporary management practice. In this context, several literature reviews have been analyzed to understand the scientific management theory and a brief discussion of the principles of Taylorism.
