1. Why Windows Server 2008 comes in different versions? What is the significance of each version?
Just as with consumer-oriented versions of Windows, Windows Server comes in several different varieties to accommodate features useful to different types of users. Large businesses are willing to pay dearly for operating systems that support dozens of processors and thousands of users, but a small business would be loathe paying the same price when all they want is to run a small volume web server. By creating multiple versions with different feature sets, Microsoft is able to maximize their profits by gaining both types of customers.
2. What are the new features or enhancements made to Windows Server 2008? How is Windows Server 2008 different for Windows Server 2003?
Hyper-V, the next-generation hypervisor-based server virtualization technology, enables you to consolidate servers and use hardware more efficiently.
Improved Web administration, diagnostics, development, and application tools with IIS 7.0.
Server 2008 has Aero Glass interface, it results in better visualization.
RODC (Read Only Domain Controller) is the new feature added in server 2008.
Up to 45 times Faster transfer speed than earlier version.
Network Access Protection
Bit locker - whole drive can be encrypted and locked to enhance security.
New power saving features- updated support for ACDI(advance configuration and power interface) and PPM(processor power management).
