The United States is experiencing a remarkable 20 year increase in its breast cancer survival rate.   Because of the complexity of cancer, its research has a broad base.   Multiple research studies have been and are being conducted with hopes for a cure.   Compound and interrelated factors that have contributed to the change in survival rate but two key factors stand out: a national campaign to spread awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection.   Observed in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) was internationally established in the mid-80s to endorse early detection through mammography.   BCAM is also about raising funds for research projects that promote breast cancer causes, prevention, treatment, and cure (Jacobsen and Jacobsen, 2011).  
Through technological advances, breast cancer awareness has increased exponentially.   Evidence of this growth is the proliferation of breast cancer organizations, and the subsequent rise in mammography screening.   Early detection can motivate an individual to seek treatment promptly, thereby increasing the likelihood of long-term survival.   The survival rate of breast cancer increases when women have access to tools that develop breast cancer awareness and early detection methods are utilized.   However, numerous research reports theorize various factors that are contributing to breast cancer survival rates.   In one study, “The decline in breast cancer morality since 1990 has been attributed to improvements in both early detection and treatment” (DeSantis, Siegel, Bandi, and Jemal, 2011).  
There has been an overwhelming response of the nationwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October campaign (Jacobsen and Jacobsen, 2011).   This response is correlated by the increase of November diagnosis in the early 1990s.   Prior to advances in technology, there was little evidence to support the BCAM October events had any effect on November’s diagnosis.   Through local, national, and global sourcing, the...
