Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3 1847 his mother became Deaf when he was 12 and his father was Alexander Melville Bell was a professor. Both his brothers Melville and Edward Bell died from tuberculosis. At the age of 12 Alexander Bell built a homemade device that combined rotating paddles with a set of brushes it was used for years after he made it. His Mother encouraged him to take part in art, poetry, and music. With no training he mastered the piano. At the age of 12 he learned a manual finger language so he could silently sit by his mom and tap out what they were talking about he would also speak modulated tones directly in to his moms forehead in witch she could hear. When he was a kid he was home schooled his favorite subject was science. When he finished school he moved to London to be with his grandfather. At the age of 23 he moved to Canada and was married. His wife was deaf. He bought a farm that was 10.5 acres at the tutelu hights. In 1874 he began working on the phonautograph a pen like machine that could draw shapes and sound waves on smoked glass by tracing there vibrations in 1874 the telegraph was in rapid use by western union. In1874 he visited the famous scientist Joseph Henry who was the director of the Smithsonian institution he asked for advice on how to transmit voice by telegraph.
