“The Weather Man”
After watching “The Weather Man,” we were able to witness a middle-aged man named Dave Spritz go through a life crisis. He is recently divorced and lost his relationship with his children. He is experiencing depression, has outbursts of anger, and has trust issues. He is constantly trying to get approval from his father and trying to get his family back together. He thinks a lot to himself about how his life turned out and how it could be better if he gets a job as a weather man for Good Morning America in New York. He is so unhappy with his life and feels lonely. He wants to have a life where is always happy and have a great relationship with his ex-wife and children.
Dave had many personal issues throughout his life that led him to being depressed. He was in constant need of approval from his father. His father has lymphoma and is dying, so he tries even harder to get his approval before he passes away. His father was successful in life and his father doesn’t feel that his son is living a fulfilling life because he is a weather man, not meteorologist that only works two days a week. He is constantly getting hit by “fast-food” that people throw at him on almost a daily basis. He has many outbursts of anger due to this issue. He also is trying to better his relationship with his ex-wife by going to therapy to work out their personal issues with one another. He also tries to better his relationship with his son and daughter. Everything he wants does not work into his favor and causes him to feel lonely and emotionally and removed from his family.
From everything Dave is experiencing, we know that he is experiencing a true, psychological disorder. He definitely shows the signs of depression and how it’s affecting the turnout of his life. In the movie a diagnosis was not given, but we know he is experiencing many difficulties in his life.
