The Thin Line Between Self-Defense and Deadly Force.

    As the Governor of Arkansas, Mike Beebe, signed the into a law allowing the faculty and staff to carry guns on public-college campuses, his actions also established a silent leak hole for the students of that institution to possess weapons as well. Governor Mike Beebe also set the option for colleges to opt out and ban weapons from the campus. For the safety of the students and of the school itself, public-colleges should opt out of this bill and provide a safe environment for themselves.

    The age range of a college campus starts at the ripe age of eighteen and continues to increase. These are the ages of adults, and with higher ages, come more mature activities. Parties with alcohol, drugs, and loud activities are natural occurrences in the college lifestyle, and as these substances alter college students are more likely to have disputes over minor things. With the addition of a concealed weapon, minor altercations can lead to death. For instance, a small ordeal over a freshman’s buddy kissing his girlfriend at a party can escalate from a little brawl to the slight pulling of a trigger and a lost life.   Allowing guns to held on campus purposefully placing a gun into the hands of an intoxicated, testosterone filled guy with the intention of revenge.

    Rarely but surely incidents occur on campus such as intruding shooters, rallies, and group arguments, that lead to the need of adequate protection. The allowance of guns to be concealed by students and professors on public campuses can cloud the campus officers’ duties during these chaotic times, potentially cause mislead shots. Every college campus employees certified and trained security to protect their campus.
