Have you ever felt like you have no family even though you have family?   My grandmother has six children, four girls and two boys.   From these six children came eleven grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren.   The sad part is most of us live in the same state and never see each other nor do we call.   How do you call yourself family if there is no family connection other than DNA? When I think of family I think of a unit of people who share the same values, beliefs and have common interest.   But when there is no strong relationships, no connections and everyone is doing their own thing its hard to view this as a family unit.  
    I have never witnessed what I would consider to be strong relationships amongst any of my family members.   Relationships are built upon a foundation of many bricks.   One of those bricks is communication.   I can honestly say my family only communicates if there is some sort of tragedy or need that warrants a conversation.   Another brick is commonality.   Most often families have some sort of interest in common.   For instance, there are families that enjoy camping, or going to the movies or gathering for a holiday meal.   In my family there is no one thing that any of us do together.   I’m not sure what happened amongst my grandmother’s children that keeps them apart and in this divided state.   Whatever the root of the issue is it has now filtered over into the next generations.   Without knowing why, the off springs of my grandmother’s children have now began the same process of not communicating with each other and having no interactions whatsoever.
    In most families holidays are a big event especially Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter.   Often times people gather together with their families and have a big festive meal.   Other families have smaller gathering s for birthdays, new births and graduations.   In my family there are no invites to any type of celebrations.   In fact, we don’t celebrate anything at all.   The main...
